Sculptures

Jean Hirtzel sculpts with chisels rather than by modelling or soldering. His favoured materials are wood and stone. Few pieces are made of bronze ; however, this is one of the artist’s wishes, which the “Jean Hirtzel Project” will try its best to address. A few installations are also produced. The majority of the sculptures are in a middle-size format, as the artist wants to focus on what he calls a “human” dimension.

Though essentially formal, the pieces evolved over the years towards a certain objective favouring the human figure. Jean Hirtzel’s interest in all archaic art forms is one of the catalysts that are the origin of his timeless sculptures.

This way of creating only takes shape when the artist moves to Bains de l’Alliaz, as such a production, for obvious reasons, demands a studio space.
